2009 Updates for the Harley-Davidson Sportster

 

The Sportster has received numerous updates for the 2009 model year.  The main changes are geared toward the wheels and the bodywork. This article will list the main changes for the following bikes:

 

• Harley Davidson Nightster
• Sportster 883 Low
• Sportster 883 Custom
• Sportster 1200 Low
• Sportster 1200 Custom

 

Several 2009 Sportster models have been upgraded with enhanced suspension. These models include the 883 Custom, 1200 Low and 1200 Custom. The enhanced suspension includes springs and dampening rates that have been recalibrated and also new damping devices to provide superior ride quality.


All 2009 Sportster models have been improved with new front fenders.  The goal is to provide a new low-profile front fender that hugs the tire for a streamlined, custom look.


The Custom models, 883 Custom and 1200 Custom, are equipped with a new rear wheel.  These models received new rear wheels that are lighter in weight, weigh four pounds less, while also maintaining stiffness and durability. Lighter wheels improve the ride quality by reducing unsprung weight.
